Our "Physical Engineering" programme is characterised by a broad, interdisciplinary scientific and technical education and a combination of research, technical development and industrial application. We implement ideas, develop prototypes and equipment for industry and science - we are developers and Inventors.

The career prospects of our graduates are excellent. They work in various positions in development departments and research institutes. They are employed, e.g. in mechanical and plant engineering, in the optics industry, with automotive suppliers, in the aerospace industry, in software companies, in medical technology, environmental protection and in the development of renewable energies.

After the successful completion of the studies, the title Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) is awarded, which also gives the opportunity to acquire a Master‘s degree or even a doctorate.

Introductory Studies

»Physical Engineering« starts with the basics – with an introductory study period which takes three semesters.

It serves to impart basic knowledge and fills any knowledge gaps that may exist. We generally recommend participation in the mathematics pre-course. Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to enhance your German language skills in a special course related training offer. A basic level of German (A1) is required and indispensable in the beginning. A B2 level has to be reached during the introductory studies.

Advanced Studies

After that, things will be different: you will join native German students for the advanced courses, being held in German. Lectures will be replaced more and more by laboratory and practical STUDY PROGRAM & CURRICULUM CONTENT training. Contents will change from theoretical background to applications and technology.
Lectures and seminars in small groups ensure intensive support, focusing on project-oriented knowledge acquisition. The students get practical experience in laboratory tutorials, in an obligatory internship in the industry and an application-oriented final thesis. Due to the close contact to the global companies in Bodensee-Oberschwaben, our students are perfectly prepared to enter their professional lives.


In your sixth semester, there will be an obligatory internship. This can either be done at a company or in a research institute.

Bachelor Thesis

Your study will end with a Bachelor Thesis. Most of the students are doing it outside of the university.




Application deadlines

Application deadline for the summer term is November 15 (bilingual program: English-German)
Application deadline for the winter term is July 15 (language of instruction German)

The deadlines are cut-off periods. Your application can only be considered in the selection if the application documents are received in due time at the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences.



RWU offers you the bilingual Bachelor study program Physical Engineering with the language of instruction English in the first three semesters. This course is dedicated to EU and non-EU citizens as well as to German students.
The bilingual course starts every year in summer semester (beginning of March).

The application is possible from August 15 until November 15.

The course language is English (semesters 1-3) and German (semesters 4-7).
Compulsory German language courses prepare the students for the German lectures and are free of extra charge.


Language proficiency in German is required

Minimum level A 1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Language Proficiency in English is required

The minimum requirement to the certificate of English is

  • for Toefl a score of 70 out of 120
  • for IELTS an overall band score of 6.0

Our Toefl institution code is 8442.

A ranking list is issued on the basis of the overall grade percentage of the university entrance qualification and - if applicable - on the results of previous studies.  Special focus is being paid to the subjects relevant for the future study program (mathematics, physics, computer science).

The individual UEQ-grades will be converted to our German grading system after reviewing the submitted documents.



Our university does not charge any application fees.

These are the current fees of enrolled students:

  • The administration fees are 157.50 Euro per semester
  • The tuition fees are 1500 Euro per semester for non-European international students
  • The fees for the first semester have to be paid from abroad before enrolment, but after your visa approval
